About Us

Today

Great wine is made in the vineyard.

While it may sound modern, winegrowing honors the traditional view of wine that recognizes viticulture and vinification as part of a seamless, integrated process rather than separate operations. In grounding our focus on the health of our land to produce the quality and character that is unique to this site, we align our efforts to compose exceptional wines that exemplify this place, our foundation in its history, and our commitment to its future.

Since 2023

Head Winemaker Adam Casto

Guided by the philosophy that the purpose of winemaking is to discover and share with others the magic and wonder of wine, Adam Casto is carrying on the vision of Jean and Sylviane Leducq to craft world-class wines made with intentionality, integrity, and an unwavering focus on excellence.

A chance encounter on a California camping trip

A chance encounter on a California camping trip would change Adam’s life forever, opening his eyes to the possibility of a future that would bridge his interests in science and artistry.

Adam Casto’s experience with winemaking is extensive, with work in Washington, New Zealand, Chile, Tasmania, France, and finally, here in Napa. His experience includes over a decade under the mentorship of renowned consulting winemaker Philippe Melka at both DANA and Gandona Estates.

At Ehlers Estate, Adam is spearheading the evolution of our Estate. As we embark on this exciting and transformative phase of replanting and reinvestment, we are thrilled with the promise that Adam’s experience offers during this new era of elegance and excellence.

With a remarkable diversity of soils, clones, and rootstocks, Ehlers Estate offers an idyllic haven for our winemaker to craft world-class wine.

40 acres of winegrowing excellence

Our Vineyards

40 acres of winegrowing excellence

Nestled between the rolling, marine Mayacamas mountain range and the rocky, volcanic Vacas mountains, Ehlers Estate’s idyllic location within Napa Valley affords us the perfect terroir to grow excellent varietals. The vineyard’s 40 acres house 5 main blocks and 25 sub-blocks, each with its own unique soil composition, clones and rootstocks. This variation includes 7 sub-blocks of Merlot, 4 sub-blocks of Cabernet Franc, 2 sub-blocks of Sauvignon Blanc, 1 sub-block of Petit Verdot, as well as 11 sub-blocks that are dedicated to our 6 Cabernet Sauvignon clones, all planted on different rootstocks. This wide variety of fruit offers our winemaker an unparalleled palette to work and committed ownership over the resulting wines.

Experience Ehlers Estate

On July 1, 2008, after three years of verifiable organic farming, Ehlers Estate was awarded organic certification from the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF).

Stewards of the Land

Sustainability at Ehlers Estate

At Ehlers Estate, sustainability is not an initiative—it’s a guiding principle embedded in every decision we make. From vineyard to bottle, tasting room to packaging, we are deeply committed to crafting wines of integrity while protecting the land, community, and legacy that define who we are.

For us, this list is just the beginning. At Ehlers Estate, our sustainability philosophy is rooted in action — not optics. Through these efforts, we strive not just to reduce our footprint, but to regenerate what we touch.
