2021 Jean Leducq Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes: The 2021 Leducq is at first quiet on the nose, opening with pomegranate, pencil shavings and baking chocolate, but after a few minutes in the glass another level is revealed, layered with red cherries, fresh spearmint and dried orange peel. It is dynamic, each element fading in and out of the next. In the mouth it is mineral and sanguine, with a crushed rock lining that carries cool blue fruits over silky, fine-grained tannins. The flavors continue to build throughout the length of the wine, which imbues an elegant, sophisticated energy. This is the 2021 vintage captured in a bottle.
Vintage: Of the many great vintages here in Napa, 2021 is high amongst them. A dry winter and warm spring limited vine growth, resulting in small, intensely concentrated berries. A mild autumn allowed for ideal ripening conditions, delivering perfectly matured fruits to the great relief of winemakers everywhere. The wines will slowly unfurl over what will be an exceptionally long window, each stage revealing new dimensions and features.
